Valentine’s Day Fun

Scout’s 5th and 6th grade classes both had a Valentine’s Day exchange. A box was made and decorated, and during the week kids dropped in cards to be handed out on the big day.

Scout worked hard on her cards. Red and pink (or black for the boys) with cheerful glitter-pen messages and small chocolates glued on the front.

Today the cards were handed out in class. They were handed out publicly, and as each name was announced, everyone cheered as the lucky recipient claimed their Valentine. When Scout received several in a row, the cheering got so loud it hurt her ears (as she fondly remembers it.)

Here are a few of the sweet notes Scout brought home. There were several others that were quite touching and personal, but Scout didn’t authorize the posting of those, which I though showed sensitivity and good judgement.

Rhonda, thanks for stopping by. I just fished you out of the spam folder!

The kid’s in a bilingual school. They do have the day in English and half in Spanish. But we’ve put her in a 5th/6th grade split so that she’s in all Spanish, all day. She’s loves all the kids and because she’s really a homeschooler at heart, doesn’t care at all about what “grade” she’s in. In Vancouver she skipped ahead a grade, then we homeschooled with no “grade level”, now she’s gone back a year….it’s all a big laugh to her. 🙂
